The American University of Beirut (AUB) Library is looking for an experienced librarian to lead its Cataloging Department. The successful candidate will develop and implement cataloging guidelines and best practices in support of the academic and research programs at the University. He or she will do copy and original cataloging in all formats and languages in accordance with best current cataloging standards and practices (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress subject heading policies, Dewey Decimal Classification, Arabic subject headings, MARC21, Dublin core, etc.), apply bibliographic and authority control, solve complex cataloging cases, implement best procedures for cataloging of e-materials, prepare reports, and compile needed statistical information. The successful candidate will plan and coordinate all cataloging activities at the Library, including cataloging of electronic materials. He or she will oversee cataloging operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, evaluate workflow, assign tasks and responsibilities as needed, train staff, and provide vision and leadership to meet current professional needs and to anticipate future trends in the evolving academic library environment such as planning to use RDA cataloging rules and FRBR standards. 

 
The Head of Cataloging Department reports directly to the University Librarian. The successful candidate will lead a Department composed of seven full-time staff members.

Minimum Requirements:
- Master degree in Library and/or Information Science from an accredited university. Non-Lebanese must also have a PhD in any field
- Five years of full-time cataloging experience of Arabic material in a research library

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.

AUB, which was founded in 1866, has four main libraries: Jafet (Central Library), Saab Medical Library (which recently merged with the University Libraries), Science and Agriculture Library, and Engineering and Architecture Library. The Libraries, which employ over 25 professional librarians and 65 full-time support staff, have over one million volumes of books and periodicals and provide access to over 90,000 full-text journals and 350 electronic databases.
